it is getting increasingly difficult to get a mortgage
as lenders are being far more careful. If you are in the
fortunate position to be able to purchase without a mortgage
you will find many sellers keen to bargain hard to get
your business.

a property in Spain the same rules apply to your choice
as apply anywhere else in the World:

Do not make the mistake
of looking at a property simply based on the advertised
price. There are hundreds, if not thousands, or properties
available in Spain at very low prices but you need to ask
yourself the question, 'Would I want to live there?'
We have lived for
the past six years just outside Fuengirola on an urbanisation
called Mijas Golf. Over this period there has been little
or no further development around us, no increase in noise
levels, no increase in traffic, and certainly no increase
in crime or vandalism which remain at very low levels compared
to most parts of Europe.
Like all places since
the start of the current 'credit crunch' there has been
a rise in unemployment in Spain, and particularly on the
Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca where the economy is geared
towards the tourist and second home buyer trade.
There was also a significant
drop in the number of visitors choosing Spain as a holiday
destination as it was far cheaper to take a 'staycation',
but this year has seen a large rise in visitors again deciding
that 'Sun, Sea and Sangria' is still great value and far
more fun.
This means that if
you are looking to buy a property to buy as an investment
the chances of holiday rental income is improving again.
